Is America still the Progressive “Land of the Free?”

Does America’s government value equal opportunity for all? Is it really the “land of the free?” As the Trump administration’s priorities are much different than President Obama’s were, many transformations are occurring in all domains of politics. Specifically, many social issues—such as women’s rights—have acquired smaller, less crucial roles in the current presidency.

During Mr. Obama’s eight years, his wife, Michelle, took action and launched various initiatives, hoping to improve women’s rights, education, and more. Instead of taking advantage of her power, she gave back to those in need and supported worthy causes. Michelle represented selflessness. Michelle represented graciousness. Michelle represented the ideal America. She was the model First Lady and will be missed by her large population of fans.

Specifically, she started a program called “Let Girls Learn” that provided teenage girls around the world with education. It impacted an abundance of women and families. Due to the fact that the initiative was funded by the United States government, though, the organization would only stay in place if the president agreed. As some of Trump’s policies contrast Obama’s, a few days ago, the current administration announced it will end “Let Girls Learn.” This discontinuation is heartbreaking to many—especially females. Though this news is difficult to hear, people of all ages must realize this setback and strive for progress. We must persevere through the quest for women’s rights. We must never give up.
